Tyra Forecasts New Trend: Meat Carcass Lingerie

by Sally Andersen

I have never kept it a secret that I love America’s Next Top Model. I judge Tyra not for her kooky nature, as I myself have been known to be a tad goofy (meet my parents: I come by it honestly).

I groan and roll my eyes in distaste when model-contestants on the show are given fur as part of their wardrobe; but, this is part of the fashion industry that I have chosen to emerge myself into.

I think, “Somebody, please, stand up for your own beliefs and just say `NO,’” when their challenge is to pose for an assigned position on a controversial subject matter (e.g. fur, vegetarianism, abortion). Though I know that these wannabes fear for their career if they were to do so.

And yet I have continued, through all of this, to watch ANTM.

Cycle 10 may only be 4 episodes in, but it has already managed to add to - and far surpass - any minor annoyances I previously had with it.

As the photo shoot began, my phone was already ringing.

Here’s the rundown:

Shoot Location: Meat-packing district of NYC, inside an in-use (as in currently replete with raw carcasses, hooks, etc.) walk-in refrigerator.

Wardrobe: Lingerie and such fashioned from pinned-together slabs of raw beef.

Hypocrisy Level: HIGH! Last year the theme was “green” … as in treating our planet well … as in not disrespecting, contaminating, and wasting hundreds of pounds of dead animal flesh that was not “green” in its production thus far anyways.

Relation to Fashion: … ?

Number of Once-Faithful Viewers Lost: Let’s start counting.

1. Me.
2. My friends.
3. EcoRazzi writer Parrish.
4. Members of the Vegan Freaks discussion board.
5. Allie, from Allie’s Green Answers
6. Mom Is Teaching mom, Summer
You???

* Leave a comment if ANTM lost you (or will now never have you) with this episode and I will add you! *

  1. Allie Says:

I thought it was absolutely disgusting and wasteful. What were they thinking?

  2. Summer Says:

I never watched the show, but I certainly won’t now!

  3. bunnya Says:

Are you effing kidding me? You’re boycotting a show because women wore meat? Please. Although I will agree that it was indeed a waste of food, I do not think it warrants the ‘ZOMG WE CAN NO LONGER WATCH THIS SHOW NOW GUYS” mentality.
Tyra pushed the envelope and got what she wanted; attention. Whether positive or negative, you certainly took notice.

[…] Show Tyra Up by Sally Andersen If Tyra’s latest episode of America’s Next Top Model (read a recap) exemplified poor taste, then this week’s Make Me A Supermodel was a five-star […]

  5. Christopher Says:

    hate to burst you bubble….

NOTHING is wasted from a meatworks….

All inedible byproducts go into making FERTILIZER….do you realise this?

When you eat plants, you are actually eating ANIMAL BY PRODUCTS…..

So, whats the vegan solution?…stop eating?

Oh, by the way, PLASMA production comes from the blood of unborn calves (”slinks” as meatworkers refer to them)….so what is the vegan solution to this one? refuse blood transfusions?

Animal based products are in ALL our food…

    Laugh about it, but true….

You guys really are a “fad”, and big business could not give a toss about conservation….

Sorry to spoil your day….think about this for your next garden organic fertilization.

so, whats the solution?….stop eating?…stop giving blood transfusions?

You people really are a laugh

  6. Christopher Says:

And another blog is very correct….

smelly farts are a very good barometer of the health of your internal system…

the more your gas “smells” the worse a state it’s actually in…..

Another point you “faddists” just don’t want to hear….

With all the talk about animal rights, conservation, greenism…..it’s a social way of showing your sophistication, really….but ignorance of the FACTS certainly won’t change another fact about vegan/veges……Your time as sophisticates will come and go, and then the “celebrities” that took up your cause in the name of their own financial adavancement will move onto to other things that make them “hip” and forget about the fact that they were ever associated with your fad dieting system…

Comments?….I BET you have little or no reply…..people such as yourself simply want to feel SUPERIOR at the expence of the rest of us….sad fact

  7. Christopher Says:

MEN are only vegetarians to make themselves more attractive to women….

Women are only vegetarians to correspond with their own Feminism, to EMPOWER….and as for making you less likely to be agressive think of the most infamous vegetarian of them all

    ADOLF HITLER…..

Doe this make you feel as though you want to give it all up?

Don’t judge me by what I eat, as vegetarians are won’t to do, so don’t judge this model for having the sence to make you all sit up and take notice….

    and it WORKED….didn’t it?
