This Little Piggy Went Hip-Hip-Hooray!

by

I’m falling in love with pigs. How could you not? Let me tell you a little about these friendly oinkers.

They:

*are often compared to dogs because they are trainable, playful, loyal, and friendly

*form complex social networks

*are naturally clean, and would prefer not to soil their living area

piggy.jpg*are smarter than a 3-year-old human

*have an excellent sense of smell

*do not have sweat glands

*use mud to cool off and protect their skin from sun, flies, and parasites

*love laying around in the sun and exploring their territory

*fear being picked up

*(97 percent of them) are confined to factory farms where sows (females) cannot move or turn around for their entire gestation period, often their whole life even

*produce some of the most fattening, unhealthy, cholesterol-filled, saturated fat-laden meat products around

*have their tails cut off and teeth pulled as young piglets without pain killers

*are immersed into scalding hot water while fully conscious as a means of hair removal

*dream, recognize their names, and can be taught to play video games

Hmm … my three-year-old revels in soiling her own living area, so I guess the pig is smarter.
