No More NFL ’till Vick Gets a Kick
Another professional athlete was found to have performance-enhancing drugs on his property. But the culprit - NFL Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick - has not been banned, or even suspended, from his sport.
Vick was indicted this week for hosting dogfighting events at his Virginia property under the name “Bad Newz Kennels.” Upwards of 60 dogs (reports vary), a treadmill, a blood-stained fighting pit, and a “rape stand” for forced breeding were found and seized along with the performance-enhancing drugs on April 25. The indictment states that 27-year-old Vick housed, trained, fought the dogs on property that he owned.
Dogfights pit one trained-to-be-super-mean, starved-to-be-extra-hungry dog against another, allowing ignorant human beings to watch and place bets on who will win: the “winner” being the one that doesn’t die. And should both dogs live, the one that can no longer move loses, and is then put to death by drowning, strangulation, slamming against the ground, hanging, gun shot, electrocution, etc.
One of Vick’s co-defendants was included in an example story during the trial (according to the indictment), consulting with Vick about a losing female pit bull, then wetting the dog down and electrocuting her.
Why has the NFL not taken action against the sadistic Vick? They cannot deny that they know about it; the NFL wire wrote a news story on it. Their PR office is no longer answering their phone calls and has disconnected the answering machine.
Vick has only been indicted, not yet convicted. But you can still contact the NFL via e-mail and let them know what you think. In fact, the Humane Society - who has been there from the start for the rescued dogs - has set up an online form where all you have to do is provide your personal information (i.e. name, e-mail, address).
