My Boss Is Cooler than Your Boss
It was Monday morning. I was sitting at my desk, checking my weekend e-mails, reading Jack’s blog, and trying to remember where I left off on Friday. My boss had been out the last few days of the previous week, so had I even gotten much done on Friday?
As I was contemplating the lazy nature of my last work day, said boss entered my cubicle-ish existence that I call home/hell for 40 hours each week.
“Sally, can you come into my office for a minute please?” She beckoned. “I have something for you.”
Gulp.
A pink slip? A written warning? A reprimand? My timesheet from last week with questions? What did she know; what had I done wrong? … and why do I always have such a guilty conscience even when I haven’t really done anything wrong?
I stepped into her office, she reached behind her desk into a bag, and said in quick, excited schoolgirl voice: “I was at a book sale this weekend and saw this book and thought of you and just couldn’t pass it up so I hope you like it and I hope I was right in thinking you would like because I just couldn’t leave it there.”
My boss bought me a vegan baking book!
Soy Desserts: 101 Fresh, Fun & Fabulously Healthy Recipes by Patricia Greenberg contains delectables like a pumpkin cheesecake made with tofu and soy cream cheese, and the New York Tofu Cheesecake and Soy Chocolate Truffles that Ms. Greenberg declares to be some of her favorites from the book in her personal review on Amazon.
