Make Your Own Hummus
When you make food items from scratch that are normally bought pre-made, you can be sure that you know exactly what is going into your body. No ingredients you can’t pronounce, no high-fructose anything, controlled sodium level, and flavor exactly to your tastes.
So I recommend to you creating your own hummus:
*Drain and rinse one can of chickpeas
*Drizzle with olive oil and blend with a potato masher, blender, food processor, or hand-held mixer; add a few tablespoons of warm water if mashing by hand
*Add your flavor choices such as garlic, salt, red peppers, eggplant, onion, etc.
*Finish blending or mashing until smooth
**Try replacing some of the olive oil with a flavored oil such as hot red pepper or basil oil

I just made an obscene amount of hummus last week because I accidentally soaked an entire bag of dried chickpeas (they spilled into the pot and once they were wet I didn’t know what to do) instead of the one cup I needed for falafel.
I like to use tahini and lemon juice but olive oil may help me out with the consistency.

I’ve made my own bean dip using black beans, white kidney beans (cannellinini beans), pinto beans, etc. I just blend with some olive oil, various spices and herbs. Serve with tortillia rounds (salt-free, if you can find them)!
I’ll have to try chickpeas.
