I Promise to Never Fake it

by

At the end of last week, I started on the topic of fur in the fashion industry. I got side tracked, and didn’t share with you what I had originally stepped out to talk about.

I wanted to focus more so on fake - or faux - fur as a topic for discussion (yes, discussion, as in I would really love to hear your thoughts, opinions, and feedback too).

Rather real-looking faux-fur trim has been popping up on sweaters, jackets, and boots. fake-fur.jpg For awhile, this form of fake animal material was being made so that it was obviously fake: it was bright pink, abnormally curly, or otherwise distinctly not found in nature.

But today’s fashions are featuring imitations that are extremely realistic. My question - is this good or bad? I cannot decide, no matter how long I debate with myself, how I feel about such lifelike animal hairs.

Argument for the fake fluff? It gives some of the people who insist on wearing such fluffernutter an alternative. True, this will not satisfy all as some certainly wear it as statement of status, and cheaper, imitation does not qualify you (apparently) for high status among high society.

Argument against? It looks real. People will mistake you for wearing the real deal, and I never want anyone to make this mistake about me.

So what do we think? Is faux fur positive? Would you wear it?

I dont think is that fashionable anymore anyways.. I did think it was disturbing that things labeled as ‘faux fur’ here at places like Walmart, are actually cat and dog fur from China - SICK. I wouldn’t risk it.

Hi, just found your blog today. I like it!!

About the faux fur… I think it’s as ugly as the real thing. Even if it’s faux, what it represents is still a human lust to wear animals. It’s still pretty sick in my eyes. The more real looking it becomes, the easier it is for the person wearing it to simply say “it’s fake” if it isn’t. Also, like the comment previous, it turns out that alot of it is only fake because it’s not made from what you thought, but it’s still a dog. :(

Either way, it’s horribly ugly. literally and figuratively.
