GNC is My Vegan Meal Bar Hero

by

Just when I thought the world was conspiring against my vegan ways, GNC stepped up and assured me that not all people are out to get me.

Yesterday after work, I headed to GNC to stock up on meal bars for breakfasts. Every month I go there during the first week, which is their Gold Card member savings period (become a member for $20 and save 20 percent on all purchases from every 1st to 7th for one year), and buy enough to feed me on week day mornings for the whole month.

Usually I grab a display box full of peanut butter Clif bars, a handful of different LaraBar flavors, and then spend 10 minutes rereading the labels on the other brands, just to check and see if one magically became vegan. While doing so, a salesperson always comes up and asks if I need. My answer is always: “Nope, just trying to find some that are vegan.”

Yesterday, however, I entered my GNC, turned the corner to the meal bar shelf, and was greeted by a brightly colored array of at least 10 new brands - most of which were vegan. Plus, there were snack packs of dark chocolate sandwich cookies and peanut butter sandwich crackers … that were vegan!

When the salesman inevitably walked over and asked if I needed any help, my arms were overflowing with three of every kind of vegan bar or snack available. “No!” I said cheerfully this time, “I am just so excited to see so many new vegan options!”

He smiled. “See. We listen.”
