From Negative Nancy to Positive Polly
The first month of 2008 has officially ended. I don’t tend to make New Year’s resolutions exactly, because then you just feel like a loser if you get to busy. Around the office yesterday, as January was closing out, chatter was about how disappointed people were with everything that they didn’t accomplish during the month.
How pessimistic!
It’s true, I tend to get teased for being a smiling, bubbly, sometimes sickeningly, optimistic person, but I think this helps me to feel more accomplished over the little things in life. Here are a few things that I would like to suggest to the Negative Nancys:
* Make excuses. I kid you not, but make sure they are legit. You didn’t get to the gym as often as you had hoped this week? Why not? Look at what you did instead. Did you spend time cooking healthy meals, rather than eating quick take-out? Did you get eight hours of sleep at night when you usually only get five? Health isn’t just about the gym.
* Brag. Show off. Don’t be an annoying snot or anything, but doesn’t it feel good when someone else acknowledges that you are doing well. Call your mom and tell her that you just got back from a workout class that was fun. E-mail your best friend when you lose five pounds. Leave a comment here, telling me about your success - I will always respond positively and cheer you on!
* Be obsessive. Write down every time that you exercise. Okay, don’t get so into this one if you have a history of OCD or an eating disorder (my legal-ish disclaimer), but give yourself the credit that you deserve. Did you walk for 15 minutes during your break from work? Log it in! That way, when you think back on your fitness for the week, instead of “Aw man, I didn’t go to the gym once,” you’ll be thinking “Wow, a 15 minute walk each day really adds up!”
This was NOT my Project Blog entry, but I am still in the running! Will you vote for me? Please?
