Everybody Keeps Giving Me Recipe Books!
After my boss gave me a recipe book last week all about soy desserts -
which I have tried a recipe from, and fully intend to share later today - my good friend and co-worker Meg brought me two rescued vegetarian cooking books yesterday (yet again a Monday) morning.
On her walk home from her bus to her new apartment, Miss Meg passes by a gold mine: an over-flowing dumpster behind a wasteful second-hand store.
Here you can find (some of which we have already snagged): a slinky; a Winnie the Pooh music box in good, working condition; dishes; an entire set of The Lord of the Rings books; interesting pieces to be used for found object artwork and sculptures; and these two fantastic, out-of-print vegetarian cookbooks.
The trippy, hippie, purple covered one - The Vegetarian Gourmet - is written by Sally & Lucian Berg, and includes “315 international recipes for health, palate, and a long happy life.”
The second book, which looks snakingly familiar, is Cooking with Vegetables by Alex D. Hawkes, “the definitive guide to over 500 unique recipes for vegetables from all over the world,” and was formerly titled A World of Vegetable Cookery.
Some recipes might be out-of-date, since the books were copyrighted in 1967 and 1968, respectively, but who can turn down a cool find - or a cool book.
Meg has decided that she would love to meet the person who donated all of these goodies. I have decided that I could get used getting presents (especially cookbooks) every Monday morning!
